Our first house concert after officially moving to Silver City took place on Wednesday, May 15, 2024. The newly dedicated Garden Salon displayed our reworked logo and mascot, Stumpy. Special guests were Virginia Palmer and Bill Oliver, two mainstays of Austin’s Otter Space Band. Their Never Say You’re from Texas Tour had tickled eardrums in a Las Cruces coffee house and at a 40-year environmental musician reunion in Arizona’s Cave Creek Canyon before wrapping up with a stop here.
Every chair found an occupant as the audience spilled out into the yard’s cozy corners. Attending were local musicians and poets, neighbors, radio personalities, the Heart of the Gila foundation director, assorted Kerrverts, and a fast friend from Socorro. Bill and Virginia performed most of their environs-oriented greatest hits, such as “Muir Power To You” and “Turtle Island.” In between, selected participants stood up and shared other tunes, like the “Gila River Song,” which reinforced the evening’s regional eco-ethos theme. Abundant potluck offerings came tasty and varied.

Everyone enjoyed visiting and interacting after the show, deepening connections between the Land of Enchantment and the One Star State. The evening set the stage, so to say, for many more fun functions to come.
