Remember, remember the fifth of November
The gunpowder treason and plot
I can see no reason why the gunpowder treason
Should ever be forgot.
November 5 is Guy Fawkes Night in England, commemorating the date in 1605 when an anarchist by that name attempted to blow up Parliament. Fast-forward to 2006, when DC Comics and Warner Brothers released V for Vendetta, which combines the gunpowder plot with themes from the Count of Monte Cristo and Phantom of the Opera to create a dystopian political action story. Since the film takes place on November the 5th, and we found ourselves mired in political intrigue, the movie’s showing portended an annual event. That happened at 7:00pm, Silco Theater. Costumes were encouraged!
